Fine Porcelain Chess Pieces

Item ID Starting Bid Bids Current Bid
103658 $100.00 0 $0.00

No Winning Bidder

The fable is whispered in dark shadows of an ancient Eastern King who owned a magic fine porcelain chess set.  Made of the very finest brown and white porcelain, the set’s beauty was without equal.  The King’s wizard prophesied that the King would live and reign until the first time he lost at chess.  And as long as he played on the magic set, he would never lose.

Day by day, the King’s fingers became one with the brown and white fine porcelain figures, as he perfected his skills.  And so the King became very old, and very accomplished.  And he never lost.

One day, the King surprised a young courtier who envied the stunning chess pieces.  Startled, he whipped around, overturning the table on which the magic set was placed.  Crashing to the floor, the chess board was smashed, and with it, the set’s magic power.

Finding another board, the King called his most skilled opponent to insure that the chess set’s power was still intact.  The opponent won in 7 moves.  As prophesied, the King fell dead, and his Kingdom was lost.

Offered here are chess pieces made of the finest white and brown porcelain.  There is no board to accompany them.

Of course, the above fable must be nothing but a myth.  It could not possibly be true.

Chess pieces without a board, made of the very finest brown and white porcelain, having beauty without equal ….

American Flag

Item ID Starting Bid Bids Current Bid
105463 $15.00 2 $30.00

Winning Bid Amount

$30.00

When Hawaii joined the Union on August 21, 1959, the 50-star American Flag was adopted.  The American Flag is a proud symbol of our national identity.  It should be flown with pride by every household, every business, every organization and unit, and everyone who shares in our love of country.

The stars are a symbol of the heavens and the goals to which humankind aspires.  The stripes are symbolic of rays of light from the sun. Thirteen stripes represent the original thirteen colonies that declared independence from England. The now fifty stars symbolize the current 50 United States. White signifies purity and innocence, red signifies valor and bravery; and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

The flag has been through many changes in its history, of which we may be proud.

Bennington 76 Flag

Item ID Starting Bid Bids Current Bid
103636 $10.00 6 $25.00

Winning Bid Amount

$25.00

Legend has it that the Bennington Flag was carried from the field following the Battle of Bennington during the American Revolution by Nathaniel Fillmore. Passed down through the Fillmore family, it came into the possession of Nathaniel's grandson, Millard Fillmore, who upon the death of Zachary Taylor would become the 13th President of the United States.  In later years, it was flown by Philetus P. Fillmore to honor the Battle of Bennington, before being donated to the Bennington Museum.

Typical of Revolutionary War era flags, the Bennington Flag has 13 stars and 13 stripes to symbolize the 13 original American colonies.

But unlike most Revolutionary War era flags, the sequence of stripes was reversed, such that white stripes are outermost, alternating with red stripes.

The blue canton features a bold "76" in large white numbers, honoring the year the Declaration of Independence was signed.

The stars on the Bennington Flag have seven points each, a unique feature from other flags of the era.

While the history of the Bennington Flag as a Revolutionary War era flag is debated, it is known to have appeared early in the nineteenth century, perhaps during the War of 1812.

This flag is 3' x 5', printed on super polyester, with a canvas header, brass grommets, and four rows of sewing on the "fly side".

Winning Bid Amount

$17.50

Considered one of the first flags of the United States, the Gadsden Flag was flown by Commodore Esek Hopkins, the country's first Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, to serve as the standard of his flagship in December, 1775.  The first Marines enlisted in the city of Philadelphia carried drums painted in the yellow motif, depicting a coiled rattlesnake with thirteen rattles, and the motto "Don't Tread on Me."

Since the Revolution, the flag has seen resurgences as a symbol of American patriotism, and support for the United States Constitution.

It may be flown with pride, given its place of honor in American history.

The POW/MIA flag was created for the National League of Families of American Prioners and Missing in Southeast Asia and officially recognized by the United States Congress in conjunction with the Vietnam War POW/MIA issue "as the symbol of our Nation's concern and commitment to resolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing and unaccounted for in Southeast Asia, thus ending the uncertainty for their families and the Nation."

The numbers of POWs and MIAs from American wars is staggering: 1,606 remain missing from the war in Southeast Asia, 78,000 from WWII, and more than 8,000 from the Korean War.  Some are buried in battlefield gravesites.  Many were lost at sea.  Others have simply never been accounted for.

Our servicemen and servicewomen have paid heavily for our freedom.  Fly the POW/MIA flag in their memory, and to remind the world that they are not forgotten.

U.S. Army Flag

Item ID Starting Bid Bids Current Bid
103639 $10.00 3 $15.00

Winning Bid Amount

$15.00

Although the U.S. Army had been in existence since 1775, a flag was not designed and created to represent it until 1956. Created to fulfill a ceremonial need, the U.S. Army Flag was officially unfurled and presented in August of 1956 at Independence Hall, the day marked the  181st anniversary of the founding of the United States Army.

The Flag is deeply rooted in American history. The white flag bears the official seal of the War Office, a red scroll containing the words "United States Army" and the date 1775, representing the year the Army was formed.

Containing the same red, white and blue colors of the United States flag, the U.S. Army Flag is rich with symbolism.  The War Office seal contained a crossed sword and musket, with the barrel of a cannon and cannonballs pictured, in addition to a flagstaff and spearhead. Its central feature is the Roman cuirass, or breastplate along with  backplate clasped together into a whole. Above the armor and military tools the words “This We’ll Defend” are featured, surrounded by a rattlesnake, reminiscent of early colonial flags.

The colors represent American virtues, such as bravery, honor, loyalty, and remembrance.

This 3' x 5' version is printed on super-polyester, bound with canvas header and brass grommets, and four rows of stitching on the "fly side".

Winning Bid Amount

$15.00

While little is known regarding flags carried by early American Marines, it is likely that American Marine flags date back to the Grand Union Flag carried by Captain Samuel Nicholas’ battalion on March 3, 1776.

Marine Corps Order No. 4, on April 18, 1925 designated gold and scarlet as the official colors of the U.S. Marine Corps. These colors were first reflected in the official Marine Corps standard on January 18, 1939, an early version of today’s Marine Corps standard.

By Marine Corps Order No. 157, dated November 3, 1939, streamers were attached to the staff reflecting the Corps’ battle honors, with devices embroidered onto the streamer denoting special recognition or repeat awards.

This offer is for a 3’ x 5’ United States Marine Corps flag, on super-polyester, with a canvas header and brass grommets, and four rows of sewing on the “fly” side.

103672 $10.00 2 $12.00

Winning Bid Amount

$12.00

Ships of the earliest period in our Nation's naval history wore a variety of flags contributing to the genesis of our national colors.  None of them, however, could be considered forbears of the United States Navy flag. For more than sixty years, the Infantry Battalion flag served as the unofficial Navy flag. The official flag was introduced by President Dwight David Eisenhower on April 24, 1959.

The flag consists of the seal of the Department of the Navy within a circular yellow rope, above a yellow scroll inscribed “United States Navy” in dark blue letters against a dark blue background.

Unlike the flags of other branches of service, the flag of the United States Navy is reserved exclusively for display purposes and is carried by an honor guard on ceremonial occasions.

This offer is for a 3’ x 5’ United States Navy flag, of printed polyester, with a strong woven header, rust-proof grommets, and double-stitched "fly" end.

GEORGE WASHINGTON’S AMERICA: A Biography Through His Maps, by Barnet Schecter

Item ID Starting Bid Bids Current Bid
103585 $7.50 8 $25.00

Winning Bid Amount

$25.00

As a surveyor and planter, and later as the Commander of the Army during the American Revolution, Washington relied on maps. Maps enabled him to survey lands, establish boundaries, and lead an Army.

In GEORGE WASHINGTON’S AMERICA: A Biography Through His Maps, Barnet Schecter provides reproduction of 43 maps that depict eastern North America from Canada to the Gulf Coast, along with other maps from the Mount Vernon library.  These maps provide an intricate and detailed picture of our country through Washington’s eyes. The maps reflect where specific events occurred, and how geography shaped the course of many of those events.  In addition to mapping Washington’s military career, the maps trace the routes of his various expeditions or campaigns.

Washington’s understanding of the country’s landscape, and his clear understanding of how much he did not know about the terrain, sometimes put him in the position of having to give broad leeway to subordinate commanders who had more accurate knowledge of the ground, particularly with respect to distant campaigns. But that his maps shaped his decisions cannot be doubted.

Beautifully illustrated and bound, GEORGE WASHINGTON’S AMERICA provides a treasure trove of historical information, including some reproductions of maps drawn by Washington himself.

A must for any true historian’s library.

52 years ago, on July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 landed the first two humans on the Moon.  Six hours later, on July 21, 1969, Mission Commander Neil Armstrong became the first person in history to step onto the lunar surface. As he did, the world heard man's first words from the moon, proclaiming "one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."

Together with pilot Buzz Aldrin, the two made history, as pilot Michael Collins flew the command module Columbia in lunar orbit.

They returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969.

On July 21, 1969, the Los Angeles Times published its EXTRA edition, telling the world of these heroes' accomplishment.

This original Los Angeles Times newspaper, dated July 21, 1969 is not only collectible memorabilia, but an important historical artifact.

A Cruise Vacation for Two Aboard Royal Caribbean to Alaska for Seven Nights

Item ID Starting Bid Bids Current Bid
105510 $4,300.00 0 $0.00

No Winning Bidder

Cruise Past Fishing Towns and Majestic Fjords Aboard Royal Caribbean International to Alaska for Seven Nights in a Veranda Stateroom for Two.

Drink in the splendor of the seas as you make your way along the Alaskan coast, in and out of passages, past fjords, and miles and miles of wilderness.

From the breathtaking sights of Hubbard Glacier to the pioneering spirit of Juneau, the gold-rush spirit of Skagway and the totem poles of Ketchikan, Royal Caribbean's Alaska is as rustic and romantic as one could ever imagine. And with ports such as Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia, Royal Caribbean showcases the quintessential character of the PacificNorthwest.

Quaint fishing villages and cosmopolitan cities combine for a unique glimpse into Alaska's character and culture.

View the most dramatic Alaskan glaciers at the end of the narrow, twisting slice of ocean called Tracy Arm Fjord.

The fever of the gold rush took over Skagway years ago, and still embracing its past, today the city has managed to preserve its frontier spirit with saloons and dance-hall venues.

Ketchikan is known for a few things as well: being the jumping-off point for seaplane excursions into the Misty Fjords National Monument and its 2.2 million acres of wilderness nirvana, as well as being the ancestral home of the Tlingit tribe.

You will make your way past Hubbard Glacier, nicknamed the "Galloping Glacier" because of its fast pace – faster than almost any other glacier on the continent. In 1986, Hubbard Glacier moved an average of just under 5.5 feet per hour.

From the pristine forests and the majestic mountains of the United States, to the unspoiled Alaskan wilderness, this is sure to be an unforgettable cruise.
